Copper-Foil for electromagnetic shielding

Keeping down the weight of our whole car is one of our main targets. To reach that every single component gets checked if it has more weight than needed. Based on that we decided last year to build the Telemetry Box Housing as a CFRP-part instead of using a sheet metal housing. Unfortunately a CFRP-Box provides less electromagnetic shielding to the components inside. To compensate this disadvantage we are using a copper foil, like it is also integrated in MRI or X-Ray devices.

This special foil is produced by Braunmetall – a family owned company located in Graben-Neudorf. They offer a wide range of semi-finished products like metall sheets, strips and foils made out of copper, alloy and zinc. Apart from that they even realize the processes of cutting, embossing and reshaping for their customers.
