Tour of the plant Limbach-Oberfrohna of Continental AG
Last Friday we have had the great opportunity to visit the power train division plant of Continental AG in Limbach-Oberfrohna. As a surprise for some of our members knowing Continental for supplying tires, not a single tire was seen on the entire plant.
Founded in 1871 the root of the corporation was in the production of tires, but nowadays this part of the production is only a third of the whole range of goods. Developing and manufacturing intelligent solutions for many automotive fields is today’s core aspect of Continental, even ranging up to autonomously driving vehicle controls.
Producing common-rail injectors, as you can find in many diesel-engines, is the primary task of the plant in Limbach-Oberfrohna. These highly complex fuel-injectors have to withstand enormous forces, in the upcoming Euro6 and Euro7 exhaust standards up to 3,000 bar over billions of actuation’s without any failure. To make this possible, a manufacturing process with high precision is crucial, with tolerances in the micrometer range. Accurate in-process and final inspections guarantee continuously quality for up to 10 million injectors per year and a comprehensive quality assurance with full documentation ensures a seamless traceability of all production steps.
Sophisticated logistics in the entire plant are completing the picture.
We therefore wish to thank Ms. Guericke and Mr. Walter for their full-service care package and we are looking forward to continuing the pleasant and constructive cooperation.
